Hello, So I want to just do a quick update of Jens and just how everything is going...and how our first Week with our second baby has been going. I am going to do Week to Week updates on the blog until he is a Month Old and then I will do Month to Month. The reason being they change so much this first little bit and are constantly on different routines and what not...that it would be nice to look back at these the next time we have a new baby and see what things Jens has in common. Cause I really don't remember all the stuff that happened with Isaiah...I have some stuff written down, but I want to document even more this time around...just for comparison purposes...and because I will be so busy with 2 boys that I may not remember anything from Jens if I don't write it down...lol! Here's the update part of the post ;) Enjoy! Breastfeeding update: Tuesday July 9th, 2013- When he was born he swallowed a lot of mucus on the way out. The Doctor said it was because he was born so quickly. So the whole first night and first few days even he kept swallowing (because he didn't know how to spit up yet) He latched on pretty quickly and nursed like a pro right from the start. But the first night and next day he didn't want to nurse all that often (he would go even up to 4 hours in between feeds) because of the mucus. The Doctor said this was normal, he won't want to eat until he get's rid of most of that mucus. By Thursday morning my milk came in, in came in first on the right side and then a few hours later on the left (because he favored the one side more) When my milk came in he was in heaven and man does this little man love his milk. He seriously is a nursing pro and loves to nurse. But because he still had the mucus in his tummy he would want to nurse quite a bit over the next few days and then he would be too full and get super uncomfortable. Jens takes a soother and I am so happy I decided to try to push it on him, because it helps a lot with his mucus and wanting to suck constantly. Over the next few days Jens has been getting more and more into a routine. He nurses about every 2 hours in the daytime (one side each feed) and at night he goes about 3 hours. This pretty much sums up the first week of his life for the breastfeeding part of it. He is really loving it and I am too (I missed it) and am so glad he is taking to it way faster and better than Isaiah did...it's nice that I know what I am doing this time around and that Jens seems to be too! Crazy how each baby is so different! Sleeping update: Well like I mentioned the first few days were pretty rough because he had so much mucus in his chest and little tummy. So he would wake up very often because he was just uncomfortable! Of course I couldn't sleep because every time he would make a move I would be up to check on him. Towards the end of the week though he would only wake every 3 hours for a feed and change and go right back to sleep. Sleeping from say 10pm-9am. Development and other exciting things: Isaiah and his Brother... Isaiah does not really like his Brother. He definitely notices that my attention has gone to Jens, so he wants more of my attention (which I am trying really hard to give him) But when I nurse Jens, Isaiah get's really clingy and wants me to hold him so he will pretty much walk right into Jens :( If Jen's is lying on the sofa Isaiah will stumble right onto him sometimes if we are not quick enough to stop him. I know he will get better with his Brother...we are just trying really hard to explain to him that he needs to be gentle with Jens. Towards the end of the week he was starting to get a little more used to Jens being here, I think he realized that the baby is not going anywhere! Jens is a tough little guy. He is constantly lifting his little head back. You really need to be ready to support his head when he flings it back. But he can keep it lifted for seconds at a time. He loves to stare at you if you are holding him. He really just loves to be around people :) When he is lying down he loves to move around, there are times when I seriously feel like he will roll over at any moment. Not even kidding! He arches his back and neck and I think it won't take him long to figure the rolling thing out! He likes tummy time, in fact his favorite position to fall asleep is on his tummy cuddled into someones chest. Sleepy little baby. This baby has some lungs. Seriously he is like a little but loud dinosaur. Especially when he is hungry and is not getting his milk fast enough. Jens will be the singer of our Family. Nothing like Isaiah, Isaiah was such a quite baby...even a quite cryer. Not Jens...total opposite! His Belly Button stump has not fallen off yet. It looks really great though looks like it could fall off in the next few days for sure. Drying up nicely. He had his first bath at 4 days old and hated every minute of it! Because he had a lot of the mucus problems we kept him sleeping on a pillow with him propped up on, so it took me a few days for sure to get him used to sleeping flat on his back. I started swaddling him towards the end of the week and he absolutely loves it. Jen's got his newborn photoshoot done when he was 5 Days old :) We are excited to see the rest of the pictures ;) I think that is pretty much it for the first Week of little Jens's life. Crazy how much he has changed.
Until next week ;) Thanks for stopping by ...following my dreams... -Cynthia

Hello, My little man is a Week Old...already!!!! I have been trying to pry myself away from him long enough to write our Labor and Delivery Story. He has completely stolen my heart and I am head over heels for him. It has been a pretty crazy past Week and I am so glad he is here! So here is my story...enjoy ;) On Thursday June 27, 2013 I started my first set of "False Labor". Now I say first set...because I have been having Prodromal Labor since then. Not every day...but most definitely every second day since the 27th of June! Prodromal Labor is basically False Labor, it is contractions that start and can get really close together making you think "this is it" then from 5 minutes apart 1 minute long they will go 15 minutes apart...it is very frustrating. I would start contractions at about 7pm (or later) at night and they would sometimes last until 5:30am (once it was as late as 7am) You can only imagine how frustrating and draining this was...cause it really was...I have been exhausted and super emotional this whole time. Then Jayden (My Hubby) needed to start instructing at a Rock and Roll camp as of July 8th...and this date was creeping up on us...while I was still having False Labor. This was the most stressful thing because he would then be 2 hours away from us. Because I was having False Labor the plan was to call him as soon as they were close enough and strong enough that I needed him to come home...but this was hard to know...so we have both been very stressed over this situation... So my Prodromal labor started June 27th and lasted until July 8th (again off and on somedays I would not have any contractions...but it was definitely at least every other day) Jayden left to Rock Camp Sunday July 7th! It was hard to see him off knowing the big event was to happen any time :( Now begins my story.... Tuesday July 9th. Contractions started about 3:30 am. They are very inconsistent, like very inconsistent. They were ranging from 4-10 minutes apart...but all lasting over a minute each time. The only difference this time (compared to the past 2 Weeks) was the intensity. These ones were definitely starting to feel different than what I have been experiencing. They hurt and I definitely needed to breath through them. Around 4am ish I decided to take a bath to see if I can get them going more. That pretty much stopped them, and then I got a giant contraction in the bathtub and thought I was gonna die. I got out of the tub and felt super hungry all of a sudden so I went and ate something and drank a tonne of water. They stayed pretty consistent after this about 10 minutes apart. I went to bed and I would get woken up every 10 minutes with a pretty big contraction, but then immediately fall asleep as it eased off at the end of each contraction. I text Jayden a few times telling him that I thought this was it at that he should think about coming home soon. But he wanted me to go to the hospital to get checked first before making the 2 hour drive (which totally made sense) At about 7:30am I decided to just get up and ready for the day because they were still 10 minutes apart lasting over a minute long each. I called my Mother-in-Law to come down to the house so that My Mother and I could go to the hospital to get checked. So she came right down. I phoned my Doctor at 9am (when the clinic opened) I told the Receptionists about the situation and that I wanted to talk to my Doctor to see what was going on. She said she would get her to call when she was able to. Then the contractions started to back off and where starting to now be every 30 minutes (still very strong) so I decided to hold off on the Hospital check until they continued at 10 mins apart or even closer. My Mother-in-Law decided to just go home, because nothing seemed to be happening at this point. The Doctor returned my call and told me to come into the clinic at 3 (when walk in started) and then she would check me and we would go from there. My contractions continued to range from 10-30 minutes apart throughout the day. Each contraction seemed to be getting stronger and I could feel more pressure down below. So I called Jayden...close to tears...and told him I wanted him to come home (this was at about Noon) so he said he would leave camp at 1 to be here for when I went to the walk in at 3! 3pm...we walked over to the walk-in (2 minute walk from my house) I checked in...the gave me my pee cup and immediately sent me into a room. My Mother was with me at this point as we were still waiting for Jayden to arrive. Doctor came in and asked a few questions and said she would check me. So she left as I got ready Jayden walked into the room. Doctor came back in and said let's see where we are at...she looked at me and said "Will you take a....6???" I was like what...I am 6cm...and she said yup. Then she said so let's go have a baby. She said because the contractions were still pretty far apart, that we will head to the hospital and get the first set of antibiotics in (because I tested positive for Group B Strep) then we would break my water and have a baby!!!! Walking out of that clinic was the craziest feeling ever...to just know that in a few short hours or by the next day for sure I would be holding my sweet little baby.
5pm. Doctor came in and broke my water...and let me tell you this was the most painful thing I experienced yet. The baby had moved a bit so she had a bit of trouble, gah I just don't even want to remember...I just know it was awful :( Plus the feeling of all the water coming out is pretty disgusting. It's like sitting in your own pee. Puke. The next hour was super long because I thought contractions would start up right away. I did get some, but there were so mild I hardly felt them. 6:00pm. contractions have started....and let me tell you they have started full force. They came and they came strong. Every 3-4 minutes on the dot they came, Jayden had to rock me back and forth as I pretty much died while they were happening. After the first contraction I asked for Laughing Gas (because it was my best friend when I was in labor with Isaiah) It sort of worked but they were coming on strong. By about 6:15 (a few contractions in) I asked for an epidural because I could not handle the pain at all. So the nurse said ok and asked if I wanted her to check me. I said yes. So she did. Then she left. She said the anesthetolilgist would be coming in. My Doctor came in around 6:30 and said I was already about 8.5cm dilated and that she wasn't sure if there would be time to even get an epidural. As she was in the room she sat down on my bed at the foot of the bed, and the contractions started to become very intense. All I can remember is going through this huge nightmare (not seeing people clear or hearing people clear...except for Jayden...he was my main focus at this point) He eventually had to hold the Laughing gas mask up to my fast and leave it there because the contractions where now like seconds apart. 6:40 Doctor button said there is no epidural happening..as she checked me she said ok this is it...you can start pushing he is ready. Your next contraction you can push. I remember squeezing Jayden's hand and a mask in my face as I breathed in laughing gas. Him saying just breath (because for some reason I kept forgetting to do so and just kept pushing) I starting the pushing part of delivery at 6:40pm. I am serious when I say I don't think I have every screamed (or even sounded) the way that I did in these next few minutes. I remember the feeling of my baby coming out of me, it was the most intense feeling and most painful feeling I have ever experienced. I remember the 2nd push and saying I can't do this to Jayden. My Doctor saying you are doing this Cynthia. Her and Jayden cheering me on saying how great I was doing and that they were so proud...then Doctor saying "You can tell this is Isaiah's brother...look at that hair" The 3rd push was a long...very long push and that is when I gave birth to my son. 6 minutes of pushing. He was born at 6:46pm. I have never felt so relieved in my entire life. Doctor says "Well we were right...it's a Boy!" They put him on my chest and Jayden cut the cord. It took a little while to deliver the placenta and it was pretty uncomfortable and painful as well. I think it was about 5ish minutes to get it out. She inspected everything...everything was perfect, even with me, no tears, no nothing. It was the most amazing moment in time just watching my son look up at me with those huge eyes...learning that I was his Mama (even though I know he knew that already) But seriously it's insane how much you can love someone when you literally just meet them. Life is amazing. Literally. At about 7pm the nurse asked me if I wanted to try and nursing the baby. So I said yes and we tried. He just wanted to stare at me, but he opened his mouth after a few seconds and latched on...then began to suckle. He seriously nursed for about 20 minutes...then I switched to the other side and again 20 minutes. This baby is a pro-nurser. The took him off of me and went to weigh him and get him all cleaned up. So meet our Son: Sorry it was such a long story...I could have just done a video, but it's nice to have it all on paper and written out (so I can put it in the little journal I started during pregnancy with him) I am blown away by my experience and could not have asked for a better one. It sucked being in False Labor for just about 2 weeks. But honestly in the end it was absolutely perfect. I still cannot believe I pushed out a baby...without drugs. I did't think it was possible, and there was definitely a point in the delivery stage where I thought I couldn't do it. It is amazing what our body's can do, and how they just take over. That is my Labor and Delivery story...I hope you enjoyed. I am so happy he is finally here....my life is absolutely perfect and I am so Thankful for all of what I have. I have 2 boys now!!!!!! Here is our little peanut before we got to take him home from the hospital (we had to stay in for just under 24 hours) Life...is...great... <3 Thanks so much for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed our Birth Story. Sorry again for it being so long...but it's crazy how much has happened in such a short period of time. I am sure I missed some things here and there...but this is what I can remember...and what notes my husband took on my iPad for me to remember. (It was cute reading his notes...like this is the last thing he wrote.... "6:46 baby born...crazy! It was super super fast! No epidural! What an amazingly powerful woman...as if she had a choice in the matter..."-Jayden I Love my Hubs! ...following my dreams...
